I was a member of goodlife a few years ago for one winter (I don’t need a gym in the summer) and the only reason I signed up was because my office was paying half the corporate rate, so it was only 25$ a month, and that I didn’t have to go to the stupid consultation to sign up.
I experienced some similar frustrations with the gym, the place is a cult. unfortunately it is often the most convenient and least ghetto.
